5 days - May 2021
James Alexander is a cellist currently in graduate school in Lawrence, Kansas pursuing a DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts - combines advanced studies in an applied area of specialization (usually music performance, music composition, or conducting) with graduate-level academic study in subjects such as music history, music theory, or music pedagogy.) source He spent a 5 day residency along with his artist fiance, Raelynn Jewison, at the end of the academic year. They both expressed the need for a respite from the school year during a pandemic.
They felt that the Sarasvati creative Space was just the right pit stop between Kansas and their family home in Michigan. May was a busy time with the residency and it was delightful to see this artist couple working in various spots on the property.
This conversation with James occurred on a random moment when checking on the donkeys and seeing them on the back porch. This conversation was super fantastic as James explained some of his work in composing and also how art integrates into that creative project.
If anyone is interested in learning more about the graphic design experimental projects by Warren Lehrer that I mentioned to James as something he might find inspirational connecting to his work, visit this site and in particular the work called "French Fries".
